View SW, towards the buffer-stops: a much degraded ex-LNWR remnant of the former joint terminal station of the Midland's branch from Millers Dale (closed 6/3/67, to passengers) and of the LNWR from Stockport via Chapel-en-le-Frith (still open), also from Ashbourne (closed 1/11/54). Until about 1970 there were two parallel stations each with overall roofs and prominent semi-circular glazed brick frontages, one of which remains and can be seen in the background. At the platform is a DMU waiting to leave for Manchester Piccadilly via Stockport.
