During the Troubles Bessbrook was the hub of the security forces activity in the "Bandit Country" of South Armagh. Outposts were supplied and the area patrolled by helicopters from the base at Bessbrook Mill. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Troubles_in_Bessbrook
