The plaque reads: "THESE GARDENS WERE PRESENTED TO THE CITY OF ROCHESTER BY ALD & MRS CHARLES WILLIS IN MEMORY OF THEIR SON GEORGE WHITE WILLIS WHO WAS KILLED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919".
