Local engineer Stephen Ballard who built the railway tunnel through the Malvern Hills owned this land. He had a Vinegar Brewery down below in the village of Colwall and used this water supply for that enterprise. In the 1890s Schweppes bottled the water before setting up their own Malvern Water factory. http://www.malvernwaters.co.uk/nationalparks.asp?search=yes&p=7&id=251
