There are four different types of Millennium Mileposts on the National Cycle Network, supported by Sustrans, the sustainable travel charity. Each one was designed by an artist from each of the countries of the United Kingdom and the individual posts have relevant detail about routes and mileage. This design is by John Mills, and is entitled The Fossil Tree. The post takes the form of an abstract tree with relief imagery of fossils depicting the passage of time from early primitive creatures to the ultimate demise of fossil fuel driven technology.
