According to R Liddiard: "Landscapes of lordship: Norman castles and the countryside in medieval Norfolk", this may be the site of an Anarchy castle and the author suggests that it would have been built by the Bigods during the 12th century. The Norfolk Heritage Explorer describes the site as of quite defensive construction, with a small Norman motte. A rectangular depression on top of the mound may indicate that this was the site of a mill, hence the name Mill Mount, although it is far too large to be just a mill mound.
