Benches in St Mary's Close surrounded by old gravestones. This is the site of the old Kings Street cemetery which was opened in 1846 as an extension to the churchyard at St Mary's Church in the town centre. It closed in 1899. Since then all burials have been in Thorpe Road Cemetery. When St Mary's Way was put through during the creation of the Bell Centre in the old Corn Exchange, with the associated car parks and bus stops, St Mary's Close was created as a quiet grassed area and the grave stones were moved to the sides.
