The Macclesfield Canal crosses the Biddulph Valley line of the former North Staffordshire Railway. This line was abandoned in 1969 and is now a walking and cycling trail, the Biddulph Valley Way. Near the railway is Mossleyvale Cottage, and across the railway from it may just be made out the formation of a short branch line rising to small interchange basin off the canal - see Image This branch was taken up by 1898 according to old maps.
