The former merchant's house is a 15th century Grade II listed building, built about 1450. Its former location was 20 metres away from where it now stands. Work to move the 70 ton building started on Tuesday 20th August 2003. It was lifted onto two computer-operated trailers and moved across a precinct in advance of the area being developed. The work was part of a £20m project to build the Pescod Square shopping complex and the building was moved to fit in with the design of the new square. The building was opened as a fashion shop, but is now closed. I'm not sure if the building was affected by flood damage and closed because of that.
