Situated immediately west of Granville Terrace, at the corner of Sandringham Street, the site was originally occupied by two semi-detached, double fronted houses, Beech Wood House and Clifton House, Nos.483 and 485 Anlaby Road respectively. Built circa 1874, these elegant houses were redeveloped when a new confectionery and grocer's branch of William Jackson’s opened 1913 at the corner of Sandringham Street, now occupied by Uppals off-licence and Whiteheads at Nos.485 and 487 respectively. The distinctive frontage remains at first floor level.
