In 1899 the Fire Brigade sought permission from the Council to erect a "fire-box adjoining Mr Poole's shop". This small building was known as Hull City Police Fire Box No.6, now Nos.334a & 334 Anlaby Road. It had telephone communication by 1900. The Art Nouveau gates lost and the façade much altered, the former stable is now Sweet Shakes & Snacks, the fire-box is Haircut Hut.
