The post office branch had the curious name Church presumably because it was near the church, although it would be more usual to pick a suburb or road name. The post office opened in 1956 (there had been a previous one of the same name but that had been replaced in the 1930s) and closed finally on 13 February 2008 in the great cull of 2,500 branches nationwide.
