Completed in 1673 by the 3rd Marquis of Worcester. The building stands on the site of the Round Tower of old Monmouth Castle, which had been pulled down after the Civil War. It became an assize court in the early 18th century. It has been the HQ of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) since the mid 19th century.
