A Hunts Cross - Southport train departs Freshfield on a Sunday morning. The station opened in 1854 and now serves a well-heeled district on the northern edge of Formby; it is also the most convenient station for the National Trust's Formby property. Astonishingly, this busy line was listed for closure in the 1963 Beeching report.
