The church has elements from the C13, C14 and C15. The church was attached to the manor. It contains numerous monuments to the Hampden family. It is the resting place of John Hampden "the Patriot" who fought for the Parliamentarian side in the civil war. He died of wounds sustained at the battle of Chalgrove in 1643.
