Alabaster tomb effigy of Richard Croft Esq. c1509 in St.Mary's church http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3890848 The Croft family were powerful landowners in the Welsh Marches and had their family seat at Croft Castle http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1364686 in Herefordshire. Richard Croft was born in 1437, the third son of William Croft, he became Lord of the Manor of Chipping Norton at the end of the 15th century, Keeper of the Royal Park at Woodstock, a Justice of the Peace and MP for Oxfordshire in 1472 & 1475, he died on October 3rd 1502.
