The Cliff Lift

This opened in 1912 on the site of an earlier outdoor escalator which wasn't a success. The lift was closed for a £3 million refit between 2003 and 2010 which accounts for the rusty looking track in this 2007 picture. More info on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southend_Cliff_Railway
