The first recorded match played at Cross Green, Eversley, was on the 2nd July 1787, and the Eversley Cricket Club maintain the tradition to this day. Originally only the square was maintained the outfield being used to graze cows ! In 1875 the playing of cricket on the Sabbath was prohibited by the local non-conformist authorities but this rule was finally rescinded after WW2. For further details refer to picture Image
