The crank end. The flywheel is unusual in being "boarded" with planished (blued) steel sheet. Unfortunately this planished steel is being attacked by rust and once the blueing has gone it can't be returned. Although this engine could be cosmetically restored in situ (even returned to steam) it would be a labour intensive and expensive job.
