Old gatepost with holes

This style of gatepost with drilled holes used to be fairly common in the Lake District. Wooden poles would be pushed through the holes to close the gap between two similar posts. The other post (and, indeed the stone wall shown on the map) has gone. The National Trust have reinstated some of these old style gateposts on their properties in the national park.
