Granton Lighthouse was built in 1874 as part of the Northern Lighthouse Stores and Buoy Yard. It was never an operational lighthouse, but it was used for training purposes and to test new lights before they were transported to be fitted elsewhere. The lighthouse was added to an existing brick-built complex of sheds and stores which were constructed 1868-69. The buildings have now provide art gallery space, recording and rehearsal studios.
