Salisbury - Laverstock South Junction

Image: © Dave Bevis Taken: 1 Jul 1963

A 1963 view of a freight train heading away from Salisbury in the Southampton direction. The train may have been on its way to Salisbury's goods depot at Milford. The photo was taken from the then-defunct railway embankment which had formed the eastern side of a triangle of railway lines. The line between what are now named Laverstock North and Laverstock South Junctions was taken out of use in the early 1900’s only to be re-laid in 1983. It is now used mainly as a diversionary route to relieve congestion on the busy Southampton to Basingstoke route via Winchester.
