View SE, towards Honiton, Yeovil Junction, Templecombe, Salisbury, London etc.: ex-LSWR London Waterloo - Salisbury - Exeter etc. main line, former junction for Sidmouth and Exmouth. Grossly run down in favour of the main line to the West from Paddington after the Western Region took over this main line west of Templecombe in January 1963, freight traffic ceased from September 1964 and almost all the route was singled during 1967. Express services were demoted, and in 1998 here a Class 159 DMU is stopping on a Down service. After closure of the branches in 3/67 (passengers, 5/67 to goods), Sidmouth Junction station was closed 6/3/67, but was reopened as 'Feniton' four years later (3/5/71) for Exeter commuters. (Cf.
