This pub and hotel on Higham Lane has 28 bedrooms. It was original built in 1899 for James Knox, a successful local businessman who owned a nearby brickworks. In many ways the house was a showcase for the brickwork's products. It was sold to Ansells Brewery in 1939 but was used as offices during the war. A new bedroom block was added in 1972. See Image for a 2006 view.
