South of Lewisham, the line bound along the Ravensbourne valley for Hayes passes under the avoiding loop built for non-stop trains to avoid Lewisham station and its associated junctions: a short chord joins the two lines and allows a few trains from Hayes to pass Lewisham non-stop.
