To the left of the line of posts there is normally a drainage pond which is a local low point. When water can no longer drain away through the chalk, it just builds up and floods the road. On this occasion it was sufficiently high to cause Hazeley Road to be closed. For where the water goes, see Image . Apologies for the spots on the lens, but it was both raining and blowing a gale at time of photographing.
