After the wettest winter on record, many footpaths were very wet and muddy. This path leading to Kiln Barn Road was not untypical. The old bus on the far right of the photograph was not on the road but in someone's garden - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3555753 for a close up and more information on its history.
