The English Heritage listing describes it as 16th century, but the main structure certainly includes a pair of cruck frames, and considerable internal fittings remain. Listed Grade II. Local tradition has it that beer brewed on the premises was delivered to Tutbury Castle, including the period when Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned there. Did the beer barrels in which she smuggled out secret correspondence indeed come from the Old Talbot?
