The downstream end of Eel Pie Island can be seen at the left-hand margin of the picture. The water is high, and the current exceptionally fast, but this area escaped the widespread serious flooding that occurred further upstream. Across the river in Twickenham, the small white building (left of centre, with two dormers) is 'The White Swan' - where a fair crowd had gathered for a Sunday afternoon drink.
