This is the River Aldbourne near its temporary source during a time of unusually high groundwater levels brought on by several months of very wet weather. It's not unknown for the river to be up here, my 2002 pic taken just over the road Image shows a similar event, and the water finds its own way through the fields and down the road. The real trouble starts in Aldbourne village where all this emergent water causes serious problems for the residents.
