The outline of the Martins Bank signage is just visible above the windows, although it became a Barclays branch from 1969 until 2011. It was originally opened in 1883 as a branch of the Mercantile Bank of Lancashire, then absorbed into the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank in 1904, before becoming Martins in 1928. See; http://www.martinsbank.co.uk/11-18-00%20Altrincham.htm Watch out for a new use, possibly when the buildings next door are completed.
