The direction of view is a few degrees to the north of west. In the foreground is Petersham Park, with the ground falling away quite sharply to the riverside settlement of Petersham. Further off there are glimpses of the Thames in the vicinity of Twickenham. In the original, structures at Heathrow can be made out - a little to the right of centre. Richmond Park is a National Nature Reserve.
