LNER A4class locomotive 4464 Bittern at the NRM site at Shildon on February 16th 2014 as part of the 'Great Gathering' of the 6 surviving A4's in the world. On this occasion Bittern was in steam and hauling visitors along a short stretch of line. Bittern is currently in a healthy state of preservation and regularly hauls steam specials on main lines, achieving a speed of 93mph in 2013. Not bad for a 75 year old!
