Yn 1803 dinistriwyd corff a changell Eglwys Llangyfelach gan storm fawr. Yn sgil hyn, penderfynodd y plwyfolion addasu ysgubor y degwm, a safai 40 llath i ffwrdd i'r gogledd, yn eglwys y plwyf as dyna sy'n egluro pam y saif y twr Canol Oesol ar ei ben ei hun. In 1803 the nave and chancel of Llangyfelach Church were destroyed by a storm. The parishioners then decided to adapt the tithe barn, located 40 yards away to the north, as the place of worship. This therefore explains why the medieval tower stands detached from the main body of the church.
