The extensive workings of the Goat Quarry - now disused. Excavation has followed the SW-NE trending quartz microgabbro of the Midland Valley Sill Complex which was formed approximately 299 to 326 million years ago in the Carboniferous Period. This is one of the most dramatic exposures of the Midland Valley Sill in the area, albeit defended by a number of objective hazards including cliffs, rockfall, uneven ground and deep water.
