The Wainhouse was, for many years, 'The Royal Hotel'. However, its original name was 'West Air' and it was built as a private house, by, and for, John Edward Wainhouse. It contains many of the design devices which he incorporated into his other buildings in the area. West Air has no Victorian uniformity. Each window is unique. This first floor window incorporates a stone carving in the central pane.
