Opened in 1859 as "Ewell" by the London & South Western Railway on the line from Wimbledon to Epsom, "West" was added to the name in 1923. View north towards Stoneleigh and Wimbledon, some 5 years before the footbridge at the south end of the station was replaced by one with lifts at the north end.
