Botanic Lodge

Founded by William Roscoe and a group of local botanists at Mount Pleasant in 1800, the botanic gardens moved to Edge Lane in 1835 where this fine neoclassical ashlar curator's lodge was built in 1836. Due to financial problems the private collection was taken over by Liverpool Corporation in 1841 opened to the public in 1846. In 1843 Liverpool Corporation purchased the site of Wavertree Hall, also known as Plumbe's Hall, to the south of the Botanic Garden and laid out as a public park. Since 2013, the renovated lodge has become the home of a day nursery.
