Built in 1836 for J & C Simonds Bank (owned by the Reading brewery family - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simonds_Brewery ). The business was sold in 1913 to Barclays Bank who eventually closed the branch, not long after this picture was taken in 2008 Image . The building is Grade II listed - details here http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1113497 . It has planning consent for conversion to a restaurant.
