The datestone (1904), in the pediment of the original part of the Lucas Building Image, at the corner of Ormeau Avenue and Joy Street. The 1901 street directory shows the former premises occupied by J Nicholson, tailor & cutter. The 1907 edition shows Gilliland, Capper & Co, manufacturers of fancy linen specialties. The “Lucas” refers to the national company famous for car batteries.
