Looking at this photo in 2014 one wonders whatever happened to the swinging sixties as there's no sign of youths with long hair or dolly birds in short skirts. Did Swindon miss that era altogether, or were all the young dudes down at the bowling alley in Rodbourne along with Mike Summerbee and other STFC stars? The view is towards the top end of Regent Street, which was the town's premier retail street in those days. Note the small individual shops fronting basic two storey buildings, probably converted from ordinary houses. A few yards further to the right and 'The Spot' would have been in view, a place where small boys could stand with noses pressed against the window dreaming of that new Hornby train set or the latest Dinky Supertoy.
