Dalbeattie is a small town founded at the end of the 18th century at the head of tidal navigation on the Water of Urr. The principal industry between 1940 and 1960 was the manufacture of explosives on a massive scale a short way to the north-east of the town. http://www.dalbeattie.com/intro.htm
