The floridity and exuberance of this example of provincial Georgian Baroque stands in contrast to the manicured elegance of the Palladian school which predominated in Bath and the country as a whole for most of the Georgian period. The latter could be disapproving, John Wood the Elder describing Rosewell House as "nothing save ornaments without taste". Recessions and projections and carved details abound (Image]). By Nathaniel Ireson, who had been a pupil of Francis Smith of Warwick, 1735. Grade I listed. Now shops and flats.
