A fine old brick building, Claro House stands beside a quiet stretch of abandoned road, apparently the old A1 Great North Road - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/828950. There are busy roads very close by however; just behind the camera position is the modestly active A168 which was once, in its turn, part of the A1 dual carriageway. Immediately to the west of that road there's the even more frantic modern day equivalent of the A1, the motorway, A1M.
