Hodge Cottage by the bank of the River Etherow. The water flow of the Etherow is controlled by a series of dams at Tintwistle 2 or 3 miles upstream (built to provide water for Manchester) so even after heavy rainfall the flow is rarely greater than in this photograph. The Etherow is a tributary of the River Mersey.
