The A64 Scarborough to York road A64, known here as Seamer Road, crosses the photograph with Valley Road running away from the camera. The view is dominated by St James' Church built as a Mission Chapel in 1885, extended in 1894 but now a Parish Church, St James with Holy Trinity. Both the original church and its extensions were designed by Paley and Austin of Lancaster.
