I saw the same locomotive at St. Helens, two days previously, going in the opposite direction. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3818838 Here, it is seen heading towards Liverpool with the regularly-timetabled biomass freight service, which it seems to have been specifically assigned to, at least temporarily.
