"The Old School" on Chapel Street is seen here from the Chapel Street/Locko Road/Church Street crossroads behind the photographer. It was built in 1839 for £700. At that time parents paid two pence a week to attend. It was enlarged in 1880 to increase the number of pupils from 220 to 550 pupils. A new school was built opposite in 1969. It is now home to the Derby School of Bridge and the East Midlands Bridge Club.
