The station is on the Ayr Line, between Lochwinnoch and Dalry stations. It was opened in 1840 by the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway which was later absorbed by the Glasgow and South Western Railway. Scotrail Class 380 train number 380 105 is bound for Ayr.
