The Northern Hub rail improvements to the Hope Valley line should include extending the siding to the left of this picture under the bridge from which this picture is taken, along the side of the existing track, up to Kettle House Farm. It will be relaid with proper mainline track to become a passing loop where cement trains from the Hope Valley cement works can wait for Manchester-Sheffield trains to swiftly pass. The plans were made public in late 2013 for consultation. Construction may begin by June 2016. The line may be able to accept more trains by December 2018. Design has taken many months already. The entire Hope Valley improvements - 3 passing loops, resignalling and improvements to Dore station - may take almost as long as it took to build the entire line in the 1880/90s. That included building two of the five longest tunnels in Britain!
